How to Upgrade Your Namecheap Hosting Plan

Upgrading is usually immediate. Once the invoice is paid, the server limitations are lifted automatically within minutes.

Step 1: Determine Your Current Resource Usage

Before upgrading, log into your cPanel and check the right-hand sidebar. Look at your Disk Usage, File Usage (Inodes), and CPU/Memory Usage. If any of these bars are in the red (above 90%), an upgrade is highly recommended.

Step 2: Log into your Namecheap Dashboard

Navigate to Namecheap.com and log in. Go to Hosting List in the left sidebar. Find your active hosting plan and click the Manage button next to it.

Step 3: Initiate the Change Plan Request

Inside the Management area, look for a section labeled "Subscription" or "Change Plan". Select the new tier you want to move to (e.g., Stellar Plus). Note that you cannot downgrade automatically; you must usually contact support for downgrades.

Step 4: The 14-Day Payment Window

Once you click "Upgrade," Namecheap will generate a new invoice based on prorated billing. You can calculate this amount beforehand using our Prorated Calculator. You have 14 days to pay this invoice. If you don't pay, the upgrade will be canceled, and eventually, your service may be suspended.

Step 5: Verifying the Migration

In most cases, the upgrade happens on the same server, so you don't need to change anything. However, if you are moving to Stellar Business, you might be migrated to a "Cloud-optimized" server. In this case, Namecheap will email you a new IP address. If you use external DNS (like Cloudflare), you will need to update your A records.

Common Upgrade Questions

Will I lose my emails?

No. All email accounts, folders, and settings are preserved during the upgrade process.

Can I upgrade in the middle of a month?

Yes. Namecheap will only charge you for the remaining days of your current billing cycle.
